GeoForAll newsletter

On behalf of GeoForAll community I am pleased to share the latest edition of our newsletter.

We would like to introduce our colleagues at Hellenic digital earth Centre of Excellence, Greece, as our “GeoForAll” lab of the month. Hellenic digital earth Centre of Excellence, Greece, has developed as a hub for fostering interactions and cross disciplinary collaborations not only between Aristotle University of Thessaloniki students and faculty, but it is also the hub of the global GeoforAll initiative. Dr. Nikos Lambrinos initiated the idea of the GeoForAll newsletter, and in just one year’s time, this has become the key platform for expanding our ideas and building closer collaborations with universities and industry worldwide.

We are also happy to present Sergio Acosta Y Lara as our GeoAmbassodor. The amazing work that Sergio and colleagues in Uruguay have done through gvSIG Batovi initiative has been an inspiration for all of us. Sergio is a true global citizen who has been working toward expanding opportunities for geospatial education for all. Sergio is the leading force who took the initiative to expand GeoFotAll across South America and is the co-chair of South America.

There are some nice articles including letter from Patrick Hogan (NASA) regarding the NASA/Trentino Europa Challenge. Thanks to everyone contributing articles to our newsletter http://www.geoforall.org/newsletters/

We welcome PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, India as our new lab. Details at http://opensourcegeospatial.icaci.org/2016/09/kalpana-chawla-chair-on-geospatial-technology-and-our-new-osgeo-lab-at-pec-university-of-technology-chandigarh-india/

GeoForAll’s mission is make geospatial education opportunities open to all and to make sure we all work together to create global citizens contributing to the betterment of humanity. Caring and Sharing are important values that all students should learn . Details of why this is important at http://opensourcegeospatial.icaci.org/2016/07/sharing-is-caring-why-openness-is-key-for-true-empowerment-and-sustainability/

Please be our GeoAmbassadors and share these ideas with all. Join the mailing list at http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/geoforall

Recording of the Open Principles in Education webinar can be accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmGoC6iFds4

Open principles in education (open educational resources, free and open software, open data, open standards etc) are key for true empowerment of staff and students globally and making education and opportunities accessible to all . We look forward to working and building collaborations with all interested in this education mission. Access to quality education and opportunities is key for getting rid of extreme poverty and enabling broadly shared prosperity for all.

Best wishes,

Suchith
